The different names can make her story difficult to follow. They connect a childhood documented through family appearances with a music career whose recordings were released under performance names.
Alexis Danson is the younger daughter of actor Ted Danson and his former wife, Casey Coates. The couple adopted her in 1985. Also identified in published family profiles as Katrina Danson, she has recorded music under names including Kat Danson and Lux Lovelle. Her older sister is actress Kate Danson, and Mary Steenburgen became her stepmother when she married Ted in 1995.

Why Alexis Danson is also called Katrina
The Alexis and Katrina names both appear in established entertainment coverage. In its August 2026 profile of Kate Danson, the South China Morning Post identifies her younger sister as “Katrina, also known as Alexis”. PEOPLE’s profile of Ted’s two daughters, updated in June 2026, likewise uses Katrina.
Ted has used that name himself. In an October 2009 interview with Channel Guide Magazine, he discussed his daughter Katrina’s song “SugarFree” and identified its recording artist as Kat Danson. That first-hand comment connects the family name with the artist name.
Kate and Katrina are different people. Kate is Ted and Casey’s older daughter; Kat Danson is a recording name associated with their younger daughter. The similarity between “Kate” and “Kat” should not obscure that distinction.
Her parents and family background
Ted and Casey welcomed their older daughter, Kate, in 1979, before adopting Alexis in 1985. Parade’s account of the Danson–Steenburgen family confirms the adoption and identifies Casey as the mother of Ted’s two daughters.
Ted and Casey divorced in 1993. Two years later, Ted married Mary Steenburgen, whose children from her marriage to Malcolm McDowell are Lilly and Charlie. The marriage made Mary Alexis’s stepmother and Lilly and Charlie her stepsiblings.
All four children participated in Ted and Mary’s wedding on October 7, 1995, on Martha’s Vineyard. Alexis was the flower girl, Kate and Lilly were bridesmaids, and Charlie served as ring bearer. Years later, Alexis joined other family members when Mary received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in December 2009. These are documented moments in her public family history.
Her music as Kat Danson and Lux Lovelle
Alexis Danson’s music work provides a professional thread separate from her father’s television career.
In the 2009 Channel Guide interview, Ted was asked which magazines he would choose from a newsstand. He included Billboard because Katrina’s “SugarFree” was appearing on its chart. He then named Kat Danson and mentioned that the track was available on iTunes. His answer was a direct reference to her recording work, rather than a general comment about a daughter interested in music.
PEOPLE’s profile of Ted Danson’s children also identifies Kat Danson and Lux Lovelle as her musical names. It connects her with the 2012 song “It’s Like Summer,” which featured on Dance Moms.
The television connection concerns her music. It should not be confused with her sister Kate’s acting credits, which include CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The sisters’ documented creative work belongs to their respective careers.
A childhood moment her father remembered
One of Ted’s personal recollections places both daughters in a moment he associated with his environmental interests.
Speaking to Los Angeles magazine in 2011, he described walking along a Santa Monica beach with Kate and Alexis and encountering a sign prohibiting swimming because the water was polluted. He recalled that the contrast between the ocean’s appearance and its condition helped prompt his concern about protecting it.
The anecdote offers a glimpse of Alexis Danson’s childhood through her father’s own account. It also preserves a useful distinction: Ted was describing the beginnings of his advocacy, while her independently documented creative work centres on music.
