Christopher Reeve’s children are Matthew Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens and William “Will” Reeve. The Superman actor had Matthew and Alexandra with his former partner, Gae Exton, and Will with his wife, Dana Reeve. Today, their careers span filmmaking, technology policy and broadcast journalism, while all three remain involved in the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
Their public work also includes sharing memories of their father. All three participated in the 2024 documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which explores his acting career, family life and advocacy following the horse-riding accident that left him paralysed in 1995.
Christopher Reeve’s children at a glance
Christopher had two sons and one daughter. Matthew is the eldest, followed by Alexandra and then Will. Their birth dates and family relationships are documented in People’s profile of the three Reeve siblings.
| Name | Date of birth | Age on September 13, 2026 | Mother | Professional work |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matthew Reeve | December 20, 1979 | 46 | Gae Exton | Filmmaker, writer and producer |
| Alexandra Reeve Givens | November 25, 1983 | 42 | Gae Exton | Lawyer and nonprofit executive |

Matthew and Alexandra share both parents. Will is their younger paternal half-brother. Christopher married Dana in 1992, the same year Will was born; she was Matthew and Alexandra’s stepmother.
Matthew Reeve: filmmaking and documentary work
Matthew has built a career behind the camera as a writer, director and producer. A Brown University graduate, he has worked on documentaries about his father as well as subjects outside the family.
His credits include Christopher Reeve: Hope in Motion, also known as Christopher Reeve: Courageous Steps, and its follow-up, Choosing Hope. These projects documented Christopher’s life after his spinal cord injury, bringing Matthew’s professional work into direct contact with his family’s experience.
He also made Over the Water, a documentary about world champion kiteboarder Aaron Hadlow. That film forms part of a body of work extending beyond Christopher’s acting career and disability advocacy.
Matthew joined the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s board in 2006. His involvement has included its Quality of Life Committee, which considers support for nonprofit programmes serving people living with paralysis. These grants address everyday participation and independence alongside the foundation’s broader research mission.
For Matthew, preserving his father’s story has therefore taken more than one form: documentary filmmaking and practical involvement in the organisation associated with his parents’ work.
Alexandra Reeve Givens: a career in law and technology rights
Alexandra, Christopher’s only daughter, pursued law and public policy. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a law degree from Columbia Law School.
She is president and CEO of the Center for Democracy & Technology, a nonpartisan nonprofit focused on protecting rights in the digital world. According to her official professional biography at CDT, her work includes online privacy, access to information and the effects of emerging technologies on human rights and democracy.
In practical terms, the organisation works on questions such as how personal information is handled and how technology companies’ decisions affect the public. Alexandra leads lawyers, policy specialists and technologists who engage with governments, courts and businesses.
Her earlier positions included chief counsel work on innovation and consumer protection for the Senate Judiciary Committee. She was also the founding executive director of Georgetown University’s Institute for Technology Law & Policy.
Alexandra began her legal career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and has taught at Columbia Law and Georgetown Law. Alongside her professional responsibilities, she serves on the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s board.
Will Reeve: from sports broadcasting to ABC News
Will, Christopher and Dana’s son, is a national correspondent for ABC News. His reporting appears across programmes and platforms including Good Morning America, World News Tonight with David Muir, Nightline and ABC News Live.
He graduated from Middlebury College in 2014 with a degree in English and American literatures. Before joining ABC News in 2018, he worked at ESPN, contributing to programmes including SportsCenter. He also anchored the weekly MSG Hockey Show.
His reporting career has covered both sport and major news events. ABC’s biography lists assignments involving hurricanes, wildfires, the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth II, alongside events such as the World Cup and Super Bowl.
Will also serves on the Reeve Foundation’s board and is a national ambassador for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
In his personal life, he married event planner Amanda Dubin on January 17, 2026. Vogue’s account of their wedding included the couple’s recollections and described how they incorporated tributes to his late parents into the celebration.
His separate documentary about his father
Will explored a different part of Christopher’s life in Will Reeve: Finding My Father. The project follows his journey through Alaska and Mexico, retracing places Christopher visited while filming the nature documentary In the Wild: Gray Whales before his accident.
In an essay accompanying the programme, Will explained that he wanted to understand the physically adventurous father he had largely encountered through stories and footage. Christopher’s accident happened shortly before Will’s third birthday.
The journey also fulfilled something they had discussed together: travelling to those places as father and son.
How the siblings describe life after Christopher’s accident
Christopher Reeve’s children were at different stages of childhood when he suffered his spinal cord injury in 1995: Matthew was 15, Alexandra was 11 and Will was two.
In their 2024 interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, the siblings recalled Dana helping them approach their father in hospital. Alexandra remembered being encouraged to speak to him and hold his hand despite the surrounding medical equipment.
Their memories also included ordinary family routines. Will described dinners with conversation and visiting friends, while Alexandra recalled how their father would acknowledge a difficult day before suggesting a meal or a film together.
Christopher died in October 2004. Dana died from lung cancer in March 2006, when Will was 13. Before her death, she arranged for him to live with his best friend’s family.
Matthew and Alexandra also helped support their younger brother. In the interview, both described his wellbeing as a central concern during that period.
Sharing the family story in Super/Man
The 2024 film Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story brought the three siblings together to discuss their father on camera. It combines interviews, family home videos and material from his screen career.
Matthew, Alexandra and Will said they placed no restrictions on the subjects or footage the filmmakers could use. Their participation allowed the documentary to examine Christopher as a parent and advocate as well as an actor. The film subsequently won the documentary award at the 2025 BAFTAs.
Beyond those appearances, Christopher Reeve’s children continue their involvement with the foundation. Its mission combines research into spinal cord injury with resources and support for people affected by paralysis—work that remains a shared commitment alongside their separate careers.
